Because you could make one outfit (also called Mix and Match) that would take you through the weekend at your favorite resort.  Skirt and blouse for traveling, pants with the same top for the beach or sports activities, a jacket to throw over either set and maybe a dress for Dinner Saturday night and Church on Sunday. 

Today's ensembles are more Career oriented which also helps the business traveler.  Pack a few pieces and you are ready for a night out or morning Board Meeting.
